Centre plans 1,000 Dalit startups over 3 years
The government is set to roll out a scheme that is intended to help Dalit techies refine a raw startup idea in the best technological facilities and take it to commercial launch, with the objective of creating 1,000 SC startups over three years. To be called “Ambedkar Social Innovation Incubation Mission”, the social justice and empowerment ministry programme will help “incubate” ideas from young Dalit techies.

'Temporary retention of GST cess, not diversion'
Finance ministry sources countered Comptroller and Auditor General audit finding of Centre wrongly retaining Rs 47,272 cr of GST compensation cess meant for states, saying temporary retention cannot be termed as a diversion. Sources said compensation due for the year 2017-18 and 2018-19 was fully paid to states. In 2017-18, Rs 62,611 cr was collected and Rs 41,146 cr was paid.

RIL's retail arm receives Rs 7,500cr from Silver Lake
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) on Saturday said it has received Rs 7,500 crore from US private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, which has picked up 1.75 per cent stake in its retail arm. Earlier, on September 9, RIL had announced that Silver Lake would invest Rs 7,500 crore into its arm Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL).

Forest cover in Gujarat increased between 2006 and 2017 but the tree cover decreased, the CAG has noted in a report. "Tree cover" comprises tree patches outside recorded forest area, exclusive of forest cover, the report, tabled in the state Assembly on Friday, explained. The tree cover in the state was 8,390 sq km in 2006 but it shrank to 6,910 sq km in 2017, CAG report said.
