A study published in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on July 16, looked in detail at 5,706 "index patients" who had tested positive for the coronavirus and more than 59,000 people who came into contact with them.

Phase II trial finds Chinese Covid-19 vaccine is safe, induces immune response
A phase II clinical trial of a Covid-19 vaccine candidate, conducted in China, has found that it is safe and induces an immune response, a study published in The Lancet says. Scientists, including those from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said the trial sought to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine candidate.

New vaccine candidate induces immune response in mice, primates: Study
The researchers, including Amit Khandhar from the US-based biotech company PAI Life Sciences, noted that the vaccine candidate offered effects within two weeks after administration through injection into a muscle with the level of antibodies generated comparable to those in people who are recovering from Covid-19.

Green shoots visible, govt open to take more steps: FM
Asserting that green shoots are visible, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday assured the industry that the government is open to taking more actions in future to boost economic recovery. After banning 59 apps of Chinese origin, the government on Tuesday directed them to ensure strict compliance to its orders, and warned of serious action in case of any violation, according to an official source. The government on June 29 had banned 59 apps with Chinese links, including TikTok, CamScanner and UC Browser, saying they were prejudicial to sovereignty, integrity and security of the country.

India, US closing in on trade deal: Piyush Goyal
India and the United States are closing in on a trade deal, commerce minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday, after two years of negotiations. Goyal further said New Delhi and Washington should look at a preferential trade pact with 50 to 100 products and services before moving to a free trade pact.
